Core Classification of Category 5 Network Cables (by Usage Scenarios)
Classified by shielding characteristics
UTP Category 5 network cables: They have no metal shielding layer, are flexible and low in price, making them the mainstream choice for home and office networking. However, their drawback is their weak resistance to electromagnetic interference.
FTP Category 5 network cable: Single aluminum foil shielding layer, which can resist external electromagnetic interference (such as motor and base station signals), suitable for industrial plants, monitoring rooms and other scenarios.
Note: There are very few SFTP double-shielded versions for Category 5 network cables. Double-shielded versions are more commonly used for CAT6 and above specifications
Classified by usage environment
Indoor Category 5 network cable: PVC sheath, soft and easy to lay, but not waterproof or sun-proof, suitable for pre-burial in walls and desktop patch cords.
Outdoor Category 5 network cable: Thickened sheath + waterproof and sun-proof coating, some with steel tape armor (anti-rat bite), suitable for outdoor monitoring and park wiring, can be directly buried or overhead.
By the form of the finished product
Type 5 network patch cords: RJ45 crystal heads are crimped at both ends, plug and play, fixed length, suitable for short-distance connections between computers, switches, and routers.
Category 5 Loose network cable: 305m in a whole box, without crystal heads, requires on-site crimping, suitable for batch wiring in engineering projects (such as community surveillance, office building networking).
