The standard effective transmission distance of Category 7 network cables (at a rate of 10Gbps and in an ideal environment) is 100 meters. The actual transmission distance can be affected by multiple factors. Considering your business scenario as a network cable manufacturing factory, these factors can be classified into three categories:
I. Material and production process factors of the network cable itself (the core that you can control as the production end)
This part directly determines the basic transmission capacity of Category 7 network cables:
The material and specification of the conductor
The conductor requirement for Category 7 network cables is high-purity oxygen-free copper (purity ≥99.9%), and the standard wire diameter is 22-23AWG (approximately 0.58mm).
The higher the purity and the thicker the wire diameter of the conductor, the lower the resistance, the smaller the attenuation during signal transmission, and the longer the transmission distance.
If inferior conductors such as copper-clad aluminum, copper-clad steel, and recycled copper are used, the resistance will increase significantly, signal attenuation will accelerate, and the transmission distance will be shortened by 30% to 50%.
The integrity of the shielding structure
The double shielding of Category 7 network cables (aluminum foil shielding for wire pairs + overall metal braided shielding) is the key to reducing signal loss:
During the production process, if the shielding layer is damaged, the aluminum foil is not tightly adhered, or the ground wire (lead wire) has poor contact, it will lead to a decline in shielding effect, accelerate signal attenuation after interference, and shorten the transmission distance.
The coverage rate of the metal braided shielding layer (required to be ≥90%) also has an impact. The lower the coverage rate, the worse the anti-interference ability and the shorter the transmission distance.
Wire pair twisting and insulation process
Uniformity of the twisting pitch of the wire pairs: If the twisting density is inconsistent and the pitch deviation is large, the crosstalk between the wire pairs will increase, the signal loss will increase, and the transmission distance will be shortened.
The material of the insulation layer: The network cable with high-density foamed PE insulation has a more stable dielectric constant, less signal attenuation and a longer transmission distance. Poor-quality insulating materials can lead to signal leakage and accelerated attenuation.

The double shielding of Category 7 network cables can resist conventional interference. However, if the usage environment has strong electromagnetic interference sources (such as large transformers, high-frequency industrial equipment, base station antennas), the signal will suffer additional loss, and the transmission distance will be shortened by 10% to 20% compared with the ideal environment.
The physical conditions of wiring
Temperature: High temperatures (above 60℃) will increase the resistance of conductors and enhance signal attenuation. Low temperatures (< -20℃) may cause the shielding layer and insulation layer to harden and crack, damaging the transmission structure and shortening the transmission distance.
Bending radius: The minimum bending radius for Category 7 network cables is required to be four times the diameter of the cable (approximately 20mm). If it is overly bent (for instance, forcibly bent at a right Angle), it will damage the twisting structure of the pair and the shielding layer, resulting in a significant increase in signal loss.
If it is laid parallel to 220V and above strong power lines with a spacing of less than 30cm, it will generate additional electromagnetic interference and shorten the transmission distance.
Accessories and wiring methods
It is necessary to use Category 7 dedicated crystal heads, modules and patch panels. Non-matching low-category accessories (such as Category 6 crystal heads) will lead to poor signal matching and increased loss.
The more connectors and adapters there are in the wiring, the greater the signal loss. For each additional qualified Category 7 connector, the transmission distance will be shortened by 3 to 5 meters. Unqualified joints will cause greater losses.
Iii. Parameter Factors of Transmission Applications
Transmission rate
The transmission distance and rate of Category 7 network cables are negatively correlated.
10Gbps rate: Standard effective distance 100 meters;
At a rate of 40Gbps, the effective distance is shortened to approximately 50 meters.
For speeds of 1Gbps and lower: The effective range can be extended to 150-200 meters.
Transmission signal type
When transmitting digital signals (such as network data), the transmission distance of Category 7 network cables is more stable. If analog signals (such as some professional audio and video signals) are transmitted, the signal attenuation will be faster and the transmission distance will be shortened.
